Postage

Foundry Books ; All orders that include the purchase of a Foundry Book are POST FREE irrespective of the other items that are included in the order, the ultimate order value or the geographical location of the customer.

For all other orders our scale of postage rates are based upon order value:

UK Orders:  Order values between £0 and £80.00 - postage is charged at a fixed rate of £8.00 per order. Orders of £80.00 and above – orders are POST FREE.

EU Orders: Order values between €0 and €128.00 - postage is charged at a fixed rate of €11.73 per order. Orders of €128.00 and above – orders are POST FREE.

US Orders: Order values between $0 and $160.00 - postage is charged at a fixed rate of $17.07 per order. Orders of $160.00 and above – orders are POST FREE.

ROW Orders: Order values between £0 and £90 - postage is charged at a fixed rate of £11.17 per order. Orders of £90.00 and above – orders are POST FREE.

Postage

Many companies in our industry treat postage as a variable cost item based upon order values and use a percentage value of the order as a basis for the postage charge; we feel that this is an unfair method of charging as there are many fixed as well as semivariable and variable costs in its calculation - the fixed costs include for example the costs of processing the order, invoicing the order, etc etc, the semi variable costs include for example the packaging and picking time etc etc, the variable costs for example relate to insurance, the postage and processing cost itself as well as other things.

To apply some formula for the recovery of these various types of costs would not only be difficult to apply but would also be so convoluted to explain that we feel that it could only lead to customer confusion.

We at Foundry feel that for clarity and understanding there is a need for the Postage charge to be as simple and as clear as possible and feel that, in view of the above, that a fixed cost recovery charge is the simplest method to apply to all orders.

Consequently we asked those people that are good with numbers and statistics to come up with a fixed price for UK orders that is the fairest value to apply to all orders; they used historical data from our database of order values and order quantities to arrive at this number; this is the value we use and will continue to apply to all of our orders subject to changes in the costs and order breakdowns and volumes themselves.

The POST FREE order value
We at Foundry make no secret of the fact that we would prefer orders to be as large as possible (which company wouldn’t!!) and as an incentive to customers to make those larger orders set an order value level from time to time that is POST FREE.

This POST FREE level can be viewed as many different things but is in effect simply best thought of as an order volume discount.
